Geology |
Believe it or not, Nebraska once was a mountainous state -- around 1.7
billion years ago. Those mountains eroded down to a flat plain that has
been receiving sediments from various sources -- from the Appalachians to
the Rocky Mountains -- ever since, plus covered by volcanic ash and visited
by continental ice sheets in the eastern part of the state. Rather than
producing an extensive write-up of Nebraska's geology, I will take the
easy way out and provide you a great set of links to sites that cover the
topic much better than I could. Enjoy and feel free to send me questions.
